This document defines the comprehensive quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials, both in workshops and at field assembly sites. ISO 3834 is an internationally recognized independent standard focusing on the quality management of welding processes. ISO 3834 is used separately by the manufacturer to demonstrate that welded products have been manufactured to an appropriate level of quality to the customer or third parties, independent of ISO 9001 requirements.
Welding is defined as a ‘special process’ under ISO 9001 as the strength and robustness of the weld cannot be fully verified by merely performing post-welding tests.
It is important not only to test the final weld, but also to monitor all major intermediate steps in order to attain a proper weld.
